Spring has sprung in Plainfield Township, and just like our residents, the Facilities Management Department (FM) is busy spring cleaning! 

The FM team, your dedicated crew behind the scenes, keeps all township-owned properties in tip-top shape including the cemeteries, Township parks and trails, both KDL libraries, Township Hall, Hyser Rivers Museum, and other township buildings.  

This spring, the FM team has been working to ensure our parks and facilities are ready for your picnics, baseball games, and nature walks. Here's a peek at what they've been up to: 

  • Facilities Makeovers: Get ready for some fresh upgrades! FM is currently working on painting the activity room at the 5 Mile KDL Plainfield Library. In addition, 11 brand new portable toilets—all handicap accessible—were installed throughout township parks and cemeteries. 
  • Turning on the Taps: FM ensured a smooth start to the season by opening and flushing water lines, checking sensors, and activating sprinkler systems at key locations. At DW Richardson, water was turned on, plumbing fixtures reinstalled and checked, getting the bathrooms ready for the little league season that kicks off next week. 
  • Parks & Trails Spruce-Up: The FM team hasn't stopped at buildings! They've been busy cleaning and maintaining our parks for everyone's enjoyment. This includes everything from blowing leaves and removing branches to inspecting playgrounds and adding new trash cans. Picnic tables are being redistributed and inspected, and trails cleaned up. At DW Richardson Park, FM provided some special attention by trimming trees and underbrush for better sightlines on the baseball fields.
The FM team goes beyond spring cleaning, they're constantly working on renovations and improvements. For instance, FM completed turf restoration around the new Gold Dust Park playground that was installed late last fall. 50 yards of topsoil was graded, seeded, fertilized, and mulched, and Versluis Park will soon see its restrooms reopen after toilets and partitions were replaced.  

The FM's dedication extends beyond parks and facilities, they also ensure their own machinery and vehicles are in top condition year-round through regular maintenance like oil changes and equipment greasing.
